Turn the knob to 11

2 x 9 = nearly an actual 'cross bike's

After last week's introduction to this year's Season of Pain on the single speed I've made some changes. I'm riding less and running more. Nothing drastic, just LSD in an effort to burn calories and lose mass. Speaking of losing mass, I spent today getting the Spare ready for the first WCA race. I dug out the tubulars from the back of the garage and picked up some glue at the NAPA down the street.
There were some mechanical changes to the Spare as well. A seat swap and a 39/42 in the front make it better prepared for Lapham Peak.

I stopped by Yellow Jersey the other day and Andy was quite gracious. I was looking for a 44t +/-2t but the prices were a bit high for my tastes since I'm not working. He made me a sweet deal on a Shimano 42t stamped from steel. If you look closely you'll see the group is still period correct circa 1995 or earlier. It might be down to about 19# now. I really like this bike. It's not too heavy and it rides well. They gave it plenty of room for the brakes to be used with larger tires and fenders.

I won't say the competition in the 40+ WCA events will be weak, but I hope to be closer to the front than last week's 35+ USGP. It may be later in the season but I really hope I can crack the top 10 at some point.  Unfortunately a lot depends on the motor.
