Since last week's bad idea I've been clearing the deep recesses of my lungs. No pictures but it isn't worthy of the CDC's attention.
I did grab Donna and give her a make-over. I rummaged in the basement and garage a bit and came up with some slightly more dignified parts for her. She may be a tramp, but she's got some dignity and a day at the spa has given her confidence.
Before
A guy I know hooked me up with some new hoops to rebuild some American Classic hubs I used to have on an ITT Prologue I sold last year. I discovered a set of Suntour Superbe Pro calipers I forgot I had and looped new cables and housing to tighten the braking up a bit. The cage pedals were okay, but some clips and straps will hold my feet a little better.
I have no idea where the matching levers went for the calipers so I grabbed yet another set of Record levers out. This set needed the little parts to convert them from traditional early '80's cable routing to late '80s Aero routing. That meant a trip downtown to visit Andy at Yellow Jersey.
I wished I'd have know that he has new cleats in stock, I'd have picked up a set for an old pair of Vittorias I found next to the calipers.
After getting the levers on a set of ITM's off the Seven from last year's bar swap I mounted the 3T stem on a threadless quill adaptor. If you look real close there's a titanium bolt from a Ritchey stem under the Schlitz cap. Right..... there.
With a bit of recycled Cinelli cork on the bars and fresh grease in all her bearings she looks like a refined lady of the street again. Don't let me catch you sniffing the Italian saddle.
After
Oh yeah, a bit of info for whoever it was that overhauled the headset last. the plastic seal goes around the bottom of the crown race UNDER the bearing. Not on top of the TOP bearing under the headset locknuts. It adjusts much better that way. I'm just sayin'.
With all that work on Donna she'll be able to earn top dollar working the streets of Indy this weekend at the NAHMBS gathering.
