Mechanic Time

I took the mild day to sort through the bikes getting used of late. The Seven's been making funky noises, though not enough to warrant the description overheard at yesterday's WiSSSC.

"that bottom bracket sounds just like Ned Beatty"

I almost had Guinness come out of my nose at that one. No, just a simple pull the cranks, BB and chainrings and reassemble. The Rig was a different story. Nobody in town stocks any 32h 29er rims. Like say a Sun DS-1, or a Velocity VXC. So I dug into my diminishing pile of rims & wheels and came up with a Wolber TX Profil. While I watched the individual TT of the Tour de Suisse I relaced the Hugi to the Wolber. Maybe the Swiss hub likes this French rim better than the MAVIC Reflex.

I unpeeled my Vittoria Tigres from my other set of SS 29er wheels. I'll either buy another set of Cross tires or reglue the Tigres. I'll give the tubulars a shot at La Crosse as well as front and rear 42mm Mythos CX Slicks on the clinchers. Either way I'll be propelling them with a 34x15. I gotta show Phillips wasn't a fluke, so maybe I'll try the 12t I've been saving.

It's going to be a long week.
