Organized Labor

While you're enjoying this day off, probably with pay, remember who brought it about. The Unions or Organized Labor. The 8 hour day, 40 hour work week, the Weekend are all a result of Organized Labor Unions.

So to start things off right I worked 6 hours at time and a half Saturday morning and took a nap. Yesterday was more like a day off. An early morning road ride out to the Trek Factory and down to Lake Mills was salted with two flat tires and steady winds.

Later in the afternoon a neighbor was readying his boat to take his nephews fishing when Sephie asked me if I would take her fishing. I prepped her pole and we went down to the bait shop to pick up fresh night crawlers, a soda and a six pack of ALe Asylum Nutbrown. We set up at the end of our street on the railroad trestle and began to fish. The last time we tried it was mid-day and the heat kept the fish from being hungry. It was about 6 pm and the shade under the trestle was ideal for fish congregating around our worms. Sephie dropped in our first worm and within 20 seconds it was getting nibbled. less than 2 minutes later she was setting the hook on a decent sized Lepomis macrochirus aka "a blue gill." She averaged one worm per fish and by 8 it was time to set them free and head home. After showing the neighborhood girls her catch they all marched down and let it go home. We still have a few worms left which may be used for bait or we may release them into the garden. Either way it's an easy day off before school starts up for Seph.
