Turn the knob to 11

1-877 or 1-800?

Yesterday I wanted to order a few odds and ends from Nashbar. Don't go getting down on me for buying mail order. What I don't buy from other cyclists I buy from many of my local shops. I spread the wealth as it were. Plus, with the items being blown out at dopey low prices I couldn't resist adding on the 10% off coupon. I picked up the phone and dialed the number on the back of the catalogue.

"Colorado Cyclist, how may I help you?"

What? How'd that happen? It turns out Nashbar had taken the same 7 digits of the phone number when the 877 prefix had become available. I'd dialed 1-800 out of instinct and so now I was talking to a mostly roadie supplier. When I was wrenching for the US Nat'l Team we used to routinely order things from Colorado Cyclist. They were a sponsor and were a few blocks away so it was easy when we needed a cassette or a chain or whatever.  They also traded us a lot of Shimano parts for our old Campy when the USCF changed sponsors.

A pair of 650c road tires and a few other things from the Nashbar list and I was talking to the guy on the other end. I asked how the weather was there and he said it was the typical mild March. All the snow is gone and he'd spent the Sunday riding his Niner S.I.R. on some trails I remembered.

I guess single speed 29er riders are everywhere.

Tonight I'll be getting to bed early. I might be lucky enough to sleep. I woke this morning unable to breathe properly. My sinuses were and still are plugged. I put an extra layer on for work and wore a hoodie all day. I couldn't quite break the fever but hopefully I'll do that in the next few hours. I feel okay, I just can't breathe.
